Business aside, at Gilna Opticians we pride ourselves in offering a friendly & personal service.
Where it all began..
It was in 1951 that John F Gilna moved his business to Thomas St, the heart of the liberties from Ballybough and set up Gilna Opticians.
Describing the local’s as “Salt of the Earth” people, it was an easy decision for friends Terry & Kevin, to take the shop over as their own in 2004. Although Gilna Opticians had new owners, they decided on keeping the Gilna name, and the building has remained almost unchanged since the 1964 rebuild with deep red carpet and wooden wall paneling.
Then..
While staying rooted in Thomas St, Terence & Kevin opened a second store in The IFSC, in the center of Dublin’s financial zone in 2006.
In our IFSC store we work with a lot of companies in the area to provide corporate eye tests and discounted rates on frames.

And finally..
In December 2020 Gilna Opticians expanded once more, opening our third location in the coastal suburb of Clontarf, Dublin 3.
At Gilna’s we specialise in top quality eye wear & eye care. We provide all types of eyecare and eye examinations. If you qualify for free eye examinations on PRSI or medical card, simply provide us with your details and we’ll look after the rest.
